We intend to work with continuous as well as discrete quantum degrees of freedom of the light, focusing on quantum correlations.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 10.000000pt; font-family: 'CMR10';"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 12pt;"&gt;We consider a two-component pancake-shaped, i.e., effectively two-dimensional (2D), Bose-Einstein condensate coupled by the spin-orbit (SO) and Rabi terms. The SO coupling adopted here is of the mixed Rashba-Dresselhaus type. For this configuration, we derive a system of two 2D nonpolynomial Schr&amp;ouml;dinger equations (NPSEs), for both attractive and repulsive interatomic interactions. In the low- and high-density limits, the system amounts to previously known models, namely, the usual 2D Gross-Pitaevskii equation, or the Schr&amp;ouml;dinger equation with the nonlinearity of power 7/3. We present simple approximate localized solutions, obtained by treating the SO and Rabi terms as perturbations. Localized solutions of the full NPSE system are obtained in a numerical form. Remarkably, in the case of the attractive nonlinearity acting in free space (i.e., without any 2D trapping potential), we find parameter regions where the SO and Rabi couplings make 2D fundamental solitons dynamically stable. &lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 10.000000pt; font-family: 'CMR10';"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 12pt;"&gt;In this article, published online in &lt;em&gt;Foundations of Physics&lt;/em&gt;, the authors describe a new class of experiments designed to probe the foundations of quantum mechanics. Using quantum controlling devices, it was shown how to attain a freedom in temporal ordering of the control and detection of various phenomena. Considering the wave-particle duality in the context of quantum-controlled and the entanglement-assisted delayed-choice experiments, a new interpretation of Bohr's complementarity principle raised. The discussion is then extended to the quantum-controlled CHSH experiment and to the measurement of a photon&amp;rsquo;s transversal position and momentum in a single experimental setup.       <description>&lt;br/&gt;&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp; The Quantum Optics and Information Group of Goi&amp;acirc;nia is a research team of the Institute of Physics of Federal University of Goi&amp;aacute;s (Brazil) that undertakes research in both theoretical and experimental aspects of quantum mechanics and advanced quantum technologies with future applications in metrology, communication, and computation. Our group originated from the Quantum Optics Group, founded in 1999 by Professor Basilio Baseia, that was primarily focused on the preparation, the study of the properties and the applications of nonclassical states of the electromagnectic field in travelling waves or inside a superconducting cavity. With the incorporation of new researchers to the group: Ardiley T. Avelar (2006 ), Norton G. de Almeida (2009), Wesley B. Cardoso (2010), Lucas C. C&amp;eacute;leri (2012) and Rafael M. Gomes (2012), the research lines was greatly expanded including, among other things, the foundations of quantum mechanics, quantum mechanics of open system, optical solitons and optical communications, nonlinear dynamics in Bose-Einstein condensates, quantum (relativistic) thermodynamics, quantum (relativistic) information and experimental quantum optics.&lt;/p&gt;&lt;br/&gt;&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&amp;nbsp;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 12pt;"&gt;Quantum Information is an extremely exciting area of contemporary physics that has attracted much attention in the last years. An increasing number of important results from both theoretical and experimental fields are changing our basic understand of physics, specially the foundations of quantum mechanics and thermodynamics. Beyond this, the applications of quantum information to technological developments allow us to dream about processing information at the quantum level.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: medium;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;span style="color: #0000ff;"&gt;Quantum Thermodynamics&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 12pt;"&gt;Thermodynamics lies at the very basis of physics and the great social and technological improvement in human life brought by its development can hardly be quantified. Now, how can we extend, and until what level, the laws of macroscopic thermodynamics to the quantum world? Is that possible to do thermodynamics in small, out-of-equilibrium quantum systems? It seems that Quantum Information holds the key to answer such deep questions. This is the field of quantum thermodynamics.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;span style="color: #0000ff; font-size: medium;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Quantum Optics&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 12pt;"&gt;The main goal of our research in quantum optics is to study processes of light-matter interaction aiming to develop protocols to achieve quantum teleportation, quantum states engineering, Hamiltonians engineering, quantum logic gates, among others. Also, we analyze the role of the losses during the whole protocols by means of phenomenological techniques aiming to simplify the estimative for the fidelities in these protocols. We are as well interested in the dynamics of quantum correlations and of the statistical properties of quantum states.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: small;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="color: #0000ff; font-size: medium;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Individual research interests&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 12pt;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Dr. Ardiley T. Avelar&lt;/strong&gt; &lt;/strong&gt;is interested in quantum optics, quantum information, relativistic quantum information, foundations of quantum mechanics, and classical and quantum field theory (with particular applications in BEC and optical fiber).&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 12pt;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 12pt;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Prof. Basilio Baseia&lt;/strong&gt; devotes his research on the study of new states of the light field with applications in quantum communication protocols.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 12pt;"&gt;&amp;nbsp; &lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 12pt;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Dr. Lucas C. C&amp;eacute;leri's&lt;/strong&gt; research is focused on the foundations of quantum mechanics and thermodynamics as seem from the quantum information lenses. The relations between relativity, thermodynamics and quantum mechanics are also of great interest. He is mainly a theoretical physicist, but also work with experimental physics, specially in nuclear magnetic resonance and quantum optics. Some basic questions in which he is interested is: Why quantum mechanics? What are the limits imposed by thermodynamics on information processing? Is it possible to understand gravity from the informational point of view? and so on...&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 12pt;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 12pt;"&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Dr. Norton G. de Almeida&lt;/strong&gt; has particular interest in foundations of quantum mechanics, specially on the incompatibility between hidden variable theories and quantum mechanics stemming from entanglement and/or quantum correlations.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;&lt;span style="font-size: 12pt;"&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
